Living in a city often means compromising on space, and one of the biggest challenges many of us face is a constant lack of storage. In smaller apartments, every square foot counts, and finding a balance between functional storage and maintaining a stylish, livable space can seem like an impossible task. At Casa Kids, we understand this struggle and we're here to help families get smart about storage with our thoughtfully designed furniture solutions.
No matter the size of your apartment, it often feels like there's never enough space to store everything—from toys and books to seasonal clothing and essential items. When you live in a city, every room must serve multiple purposes, making smart storage essential. With our expertise in designing for compact spaces, we know how to incorporate storage seamlessly into any room without sacrificing style or comfort.
Take Peter and Theo's playroom, for instance. Their parents needed to transform an extra room into a multifunctional space that could serve as a playroom, guest room, home office, and study area for the kids, all while maximizing storage. We achieved all of their requests and more by working with them via our home consultation process. Check out Peter and Theo's full design tour here.
At Casa Kids, we approach each project with the goal of maximizing every inch of space. Our custom furniture solutions, like built-in desks with shelving, under-bed drawers, and modular cabinetry, are designed to create order out of chaos. Whether you're looking for solutions to fit small bedrooms or ways to organize shared spaces, we can help you create a home that feels both tidy and spacious.
Take Lulu's room, for example. Within its narrow layout, we needed to incorporate a bed, desk, dresser, wardobe, general storage—all without overwhelming the room. By building all the furniture along one wall, we were able to maximize the space with our Marino loft bed that features an expansive workspace with shelving below, a custom staircase leading up to the bed that features deep drawers, and a tall wardrobe unit for clothing storage. This clever design made the most of the room's footprint while keeping it functional and clutter-free. Check out Lulu's full design tour here.
The key to truly effective storage is flexibility—because storage needs are never static. As families grow, as kids get older, or as homes change, the way we use space and what we need to store evolves. That's why flexibility is at the heart of all our designs. Our furniture isn’t just built for the present; it’s built to adapt over time, so that your storage solutions can grow and change with you.
Take Eleanor and Gabriel's room, for example. Years before we were called in to plan a room division, their parents had purchased our Cabina bunk bed, knowing they could separate the beds when the kids were ready for their own spaces. When we came in to design the room partition, we made sure the cabinetry would be just as adaptable if the family ever moved. The room was divided using 4 modular cabinets, ensuring that Eleanor and Gabriel could each have 2 units if they move to a new home with separate bedrooms. We also designed the cabinetry in two height sections—84" and 23"—so that if the ceilings in their future home are lower, the upper and lower sections can be used independently. In city apartments where floor space is limited, making use of vertical space is essential for maximizing storage. Lofted beds and tall cabinetry are just two examples of how vertical solutions can unlock hidden storage potential, freeing up valuable floor space for play, study, and other essential activities. By designing vertically, you can create rooms that feel more spacious without sacrificing storage.
In Grace and Rose's room, we took advantage of their tall ceiling by increasing the height of their Dumbo loft beds to maximize the storage in the cabinetry underneath, while also designing a U-shaped staircase with built-in drawers to ensure both safety and functionality. Tall wardrobe units next to the beds provide additional storage, ensuring that everything has its place without taking up floor space. This design allowed for both practicality and a sense of openness. Check out Grace and Rose's full design tour here.
What works for one family may not work for another, which is why custom storage solutions are important. At Casa Kids, we design each piece of custom furniture with your specific needs in mind, whether it's modular furniture that can move with you or built-in cabinetry for spaces that require a more permanent solution. No matter the room, our expert team can help you create a storage solution that works perfectly for your home and lifestyle.
In this hybrid home office and playroom, a custom built-in storage solution was definitely necessary. This loft-style space had several challenging beams and wall jut-outs that made modular cabinetry a bit more tricky. To address this, we designed traditional cabinetry packed with storage to fit seamlessly into the space. We also created an expansive window seating area with storage underneath the cushions.
