PETER AND THEO: A MULTIPURPOSE FAMILY ROOM.

This New York City family wanted to make the most of their spare room, so they called on Casa Kids to create furniture that would let the room function as a guest room, play space, and home office. Here’s how we fulfilled their large wishlist for a small room.

Functionality as a guest room was delivered by our Cabina daybed that we slightly modified with walnut end panels and cutaways to accommodate the existing baseboard. A trundle bed adds a second sleeping spot without taking up precious floor space

For work-from-home use, we created a wall of desks and cabinetry. Two separate work areas were positioned as far away from each other as possible to allow focus when two people are using the desk at once. Closed cabinets provide storage for office supplies, while an expanse of wall was left blank for a TV to sit opposite the daybed.

To maximize the space for playtime, we built a custom window bench. Underneath the bench, bins on rolling casters keep toys organized and out of sight when not in use. The cabinet on the right cleverly conceals the AC vent during most of the year, but can be rolled out of the way when cooling is needed. For the finishing touch, we designed a custom curio cabinet to hold picture books and small toys.
