Family Room: A Versatile Space for Every Occasion

Step into this thoughtfully designed family room, where versatility meets comfort. From game nights and family gatherings to movie marathons and sleepovers, this multifunctional space is ready for any occasion. The family wanted to maintain the open-concept layout of this room while still maximizing storage, so we focused on creating custom cabinetry along one expansive wall. Spanning the 21 foot long wall, we divided the cabinetry into two distinct sections.

The first section, finished in natural birch, is 19" deep and centered around our queen-size vertical Tuck over daybed. We customized the daybed to have higher arms, allowing for extra side cushions to increase the comfort of the bench. When the bed is opened, integrated sconces attached to the headboard panel provide convenient reading lights. Above the bed, we installed a cabinet featuring 3 doors, with the middle compartment housing a projector that pairs with the roll down screen on the opposite wall—creating a cozy spot for movie nights. Flanking the daybed, the surrounding cabinetry combines drawers, doors, and open shelving for both display shelving, providing the family the versatility to store any items they need. Both of these cabinets also feature built-in sconces for ambient lighting and include conveniently placed electrical outlets along the cabinet backs and base, ensuring easy access.

The second section of cabinetry, finished in natural birch with white accents and measuring 23" deep, provides visual contrast and extra storage space the client was looking for. The inside of these units include a combination of adjustable shelves and hanging rods, perfect for storing coats and other bulky items. The narrower cabinet furthest to the right was designed around a jut-out in the wall and functions as a utility closet, ideal for storing household essentials like brooms, and vacuums.
