In this one-bedroom apartment, we transformed an existing alcove into a bedroom for Penelope using our modular cabinetry. Because the space couldn’t be divided through traditional construction methods, we designed and built this room partition with full-height cabinetry and panels that act as both storage space and walls, no construction, permits, or mess required. This flexible approach allows for the cabinetry and partitions to be easily removed and potentially reconfigured elsewhere, and unlike other partitions, it adds usable storage to the home.
Inside Penelope’s room, we recommended lofting the bed and leaving the underside open to allow for more floorspace. Since the room is tight and the HVAC unit limited placement options, the Dumbo loft bed was made to custom dimensions and we designed the headboard panel to rest directly on the windowsill, giving us just enough clearance to fit a properly sized sleep area.
The open space underneath the loft provides a cozy nook for reading and relaxation, and the compact footprint ensures that Penelope still has room to play.
The cabinetry is our signature birch finish with whitewashed accents, and the bifold door panel features custom made leather pulls.
